On Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th the Billings Symphony will light up the Alberta Bair Theater stage as they team up with the San Diego Ballet Company and local dancers from the School of Classical Ballet to bring the magic of the winter season to life.
A time-honored classic, The Nutcracker Ballet has wowed the Billings community for over 45 years now. From the battle of the Mouse King to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the vibrant storytelling will keep even the unruliest of children captivated—and even the unruliest of adults too.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the story, The Nutcracker Ballet follows the story of a young girl named Clara, played in this production by a local dancers, who receives a toy nutcracker from her uncle. Her brother, who is jealous of her present, fights with her over the doll, eventually leading to it breaking. Her uncle fixes the nutcracker with magic and takes them to bed, leaving behind the nutcracker.
Clara later returns to check on the nutcracker, only to find that her nutcracker has come to life and a battle ensues with the Mouse King and his mice. Eventually the nutcracker is victorious—with the help of a well-timed and well-aimed ballet slipper from Clara—and he turns into a prince.
In the second act, he leads Clara on a journey though the Land of Sweets. Where they are greeted with a celebration of sweets from around the world in thanks to Clara for returning their prince to them.
