Join the Billings Symphony for the opening concert of our 75th anniversary season on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00PM at the Lockwood Performing Arts Center with a performance from the truly exceptional conductor-less orchestra, String Orchestra of the Rockies (SOR).
Recently, they celebrated their 40th anniversary and have been Montana’s premier conductor-less string orchestra for these past 40 years. The critically acclaimed ensemble draws 15 of the finest string players from the state of Montana and features world-class soloists on a five-concert season at University of Montana. Musicians rehearse in a collaborative effort that enables each player to have an impact on the artistic process.
Many world-renowned guest artists have shared the stage with SOR, resulting in a musical collaboration that is absolutely thrilling for the concert audience. In addition to these performances, SOR continues its commitment to giving back to the community by offering master classes taught by these fine artists and side-by-side performance opportunities of exceptional young high school and university students.
This past season they were selected by Arts Missoula to receive the prestigious 2025 Cultural Vision Award—an award for honoring artistic and cultural programming—for their commitment to elevating music in Montana.
The String Orchestra of the Rockies will perform at 7PM on Thursday, Sep. 11, at the Lockwood Performing Arts Center, 1932 US Highway 87 E Lockwood, MT. This is an open seating event, with doors opening at 6PM. To purchase tickets, call 406-252-3610 or visit www.billingssymphony.org.
