The Missoula Symphony Orchestra continues its 2025–26 season with Masterworks 2 – Light & Darkness, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at the Dennison Theatre. Led by Music Director Julia Tai, this evocative program invites audiences to a profound exploration of contrast, emotion, and the shifting balance between shadow and light.

Honoring All Saints’ Day, Light & Darkness reveals music’s power to illuminate the human experience, from quiet introspection to soaring emotion. “This concert embodies the very essence of what music can express,” said Julia Tai. “It’s about confronting darkness and finding light in sound, in spirit, and in one another.”

The program opens with Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, a meditative tribute unfolding in waves of reverent stillness. Guest cellist Nathan Chan then joins the orchestra for Philip Glass’ Cello Concerto No. 2 “Naqoyqatsi”, a mesmerizing work of minimalist rhythm and cinematic grandeur. The concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique”, a deeply emotional masterpiece of passion, despair, and beauty.

Experience an unforgettable evening where light and darkness converge through the transformative power of symphonic music.
