The Great Falls Symphony invites you to experience Renewal, a powerful evening of music on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 PM in the Mansfield Theater, led by music director candidate Daniel Black. Designed as an emotional journey from darkness to hope, the program opens with Robert Schumann’s dramatic Manfred Overture, inspired by Lord Byron’s brooding Gothic poem, followed by Jocelyn Morlock’s modern and emotional My Name is Amanda Todd, a work centered on compassion and humanity.

The evening continues with Guillaume Connesson’s vibrant Oboe Concerto Les Belles Heures, featuring guest artist Dwight Parry, principal oboist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Written especially for Parry, the work is a colorful and poetic journey through the phases of the day. After intermission, the concert concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s joyful and melodic Symphony No. 8 (Dvořák), a warm and optimistic celebration of nature, beauty, and the vibrant spirit of Bohemia. Daniel Black describes the program simply: “I wanted to start somewhere dark and progress to somewhere more positive and upbeat.”
